From anti-boredom tips to exercises
If you are going on holiday to Spain or Turkey, it is best to take a flight. But if you are planning a holiday in Mexico, Thailand or another distant country, it is not surprising if you stumble out of the plane exhausted. It can also be different! Read the tips below and get off the plane fit.
Anti-boredom tips
Boredom makes you lame, so arm yourself against this. Of course you can watch movies or listen to music on board, but there are also alternatives.
- Bring fun travel games that you can play alone or in pairs. Playing cards are also fun.
- Reading magazines distracts you. Preferably magazines with a lot of text and few pictures.
- How about a book? Humorous books and detective novels are especially pleasant to read on an airplane.
- Puzzles are also possible. You have plenty of choice from crosswords, sudokos, continuations, et cetera.
- Have a chat with other people.
do exercises
To keep your muscles flexible, you can do some exercises in your chair. Do each exercise below at least ten times.
- Place your heels on the floor and pull your toes up as far as possible. Then move your toes back to the floor.
- Pull your heels up and keep your toes on the floor. Then move your heels toward the floor.
- Lift your feet about four inches off the floor and make a circle. First left and then right.
- Lift your leg slightly and then push your leg down with your hand while trying to push your leg against your hand at the same time. Then switch legs.
- Move your shoulders forward, back and up.
- Rest your elbows on the railings and alternately bring your right and left hands to your chest.
- Tilt your tailbone down in the chair while bending your back slightly forward. Tense your lower back and pelvic muscles for two seconds, then tilt back.
- Extend your left arm straight forward and grab your left elbow with your right hand, then slowly press the extended left arm toward the right shoulder. Do the same with the right arm.
- Relax your shoulders and slowly lower your head toward your right shoulder. Then gently bend the head back and slowly move to the left shoulder.
try to sleep
Although sleeping on an airplane is not comfortable, you can make it easier on yourself.
- If you check in quickly, you may be able to get a seat with more legroom. That always sleeps better.
- Find out how best to adjust your chair before going to sleep.
- If you use earplugs, you may fall asleep earlier.
- With a sleep mask you will not be bothered by light. Sleep will then come quickly.
- Make sure you don’t have cold feet. Bring an extra pair of socks.
- Put on loose clothing. Tight pants or bras may hinder you from going to sleep.
- Bring your own pillow.
General tips
- Do not cross your legs. You then have a better chance of thrombosis and your legs are more likely to get tired.
- Eat light meals on board.
- Lubricate your skin with a moisturizing cream.
- Drink enough and preferably as little alcohol and coffee as possible. Water is a better alternative.
- Don’t sit in your seat for hours, stand up straight or walk down the aisle.
- And last but not least, do some stretching exercises when you get off the plane to get the blood circulation going again.
