You thought you were enjoying a good hash or lasagna with beef? What if you actually ate horse! This is the unpleasant discovery made by the British Food Safety Authority (FSA). The Findus beef lasagna tested contained more than 60% horse meat …
No health risk
The French group Findus, headquartered in Great Britain, reacted quickly. Since February 4, it has suspended the supply of certain batches concerning the prepared dishes of lasagna bolognese, hash parmentier and moussaka, the manufacture of which is ensured by an external supplier. This Friday February 8, the company “aware of the moral and cultural stake of this problem of conformity” went further by withdrawing its products from points of sale in France. Findus would however like to stress the absence of any health risk.
“Out of respect for the consumer and in line with the values and quality standards of the Findus brand, we preferred to remove the affected batches from the shelves. As of Monday, Findus will be in a position to resume supplies with products certified as conforming to the expected recipe. “, said Christophe Guillon, Director of Operations of Findus France.
