Stellantis continues to push towards full electrification of all of its brands. This will be the case for Fiat by 2027. The Turin firm will receive the reinforcement of three new models: the replacements for the 500X and Panda as well as a compact SUV which would adopt the name of Multipla.
On the occasion of the presentation of results financial statements at the end of February, Carlos Tavares confirmed that the Fiat range will be 100% electric in 2027, adding: “we have in the pipes all the 100% electric products that we need to have a strong position in the different markets where Fiat currently operates”.
This electrification is accompanied, Fiat will also multiply its chances of success. The Mirafiori factory in Turin hosting the current manufacture of the 500 Electric will become a nerve center of EV production. The site based in Termoli will be transformed into gigafactory and responsible for the production of lithium-ion batteries. Finally, in the summer of 2023, the manufacturer will launch production at the Tychy plant in Poland of the very first model of its new Centoventi family.
A new family of models
With the merger of PSA and FCA, Fiat will finally have the means to renew its range, the latest novelty of which remains the 500th in 2020. Carlos Tavares takes the liberty of emphasizing this, “what works with a specific brand will certainly be extended to other brands”. Thus, the Centoventi family we were talking about will accommodate three electric cars from 2023 to 2025.
The first to land on our roads will be a B-segment SUV (Peugeot 2008, DS3 Crossback, etc.). It will take over the CMP platform of the models mentioned above but will focus on electric motors, it has been officially announced. It will directly replace the 500X in decline in Europe.
In 2024, an SUV of the upper segment will appear. It could take up the philosophy of the famous Multipla (1998-2010) by giving pride of place to the interior space. A quality often common to electric vehicles, which have no transmission tunnel. Finally, 2025 would be the year of the return of the Panda. Inspired by the Centoventi concept, the model will be “minimalist, cool, nice but not low cost, which we can call “the Panda of the future” according to Olivier François, the brand’s president. It will take over the platform of the next generation of C3.
