January 26, 2012 – According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cancer is the leading cause of death in the world. She says he killed 84 million people between 2005 and 2015.
On February 4, 2012, the whole world will unite on the theme of the fight against cancer, a day organized by the WHO and the International Union Against Cancer (UICC).
The emphasis will be on prevention. It is considered that 4 out of 10 cancers could be prevented through measures such as vaccination or a healthier lifestyle.
Currently, lung cancer is the one that causes the most deaths each year. Next come cancers of the stomach, liver, and colorectal cancer.
Although there are genetic predispositions, daily measures can be taken to decrease the risk of developing cancer.
As such, OMS recalls that it is important to protect yourself from ultraviolet rays, to avoid toxic substances such as tobacco or alcohol, and to practice regular physical activity which will limit overweight and stress.
Screenings are also recommended for breast or cervical cancer.
World Cancer Day will therefore be an opportunity to unite populations around the same cause, to provide support to patients but above all to prevent and educate as many people as possible.
