According to a study conducted by a team of researchers from the University of Bonn (Germany), regularly consuming food rich in fat and sugars would be bad for our immune system.
A modification of our genetic balance
Burgers, fries, pizzas, ice cream … All the dishes that we find in fast food restaurants are appreciated by young and old, but they should not be eaten in too large quantities. These foods rich in fat and sugars and low in fiber can indeed be factors of cardiovascular disease. and obesity, but that’s not all.
According to a new study, published in the scientific journal Cell, this food is received by the body as an infectious attack and causes a defensive reaction from the body. The body then begins to secrete additional immune cells which contribute to lasting modification of our genetic balance. To reach this conclusion, the researchers put mice on a diet high in fat and carbohydrates.
A risk of developing diseases
” The innate immune system has a form of memory », Explains Professor Eicke Latz, lead author of the study. ” After infection, the body’s defenses remain in a sort of alarm state and react to even the smallest stimuli with stronger inflammatory responses. “. These inflammatory responses could promote the accelerated development of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.
According to the authors of this study, “ junk food causes epigenetic changes inducing an exaggerated immune response that inflames the body “. People who regularly consume the food offered in fast food restaurants significantly increase their risk of stroke and heart attack. It is therefore very important to protect children and provide them with healthy food that is essential to stay healthy.
