Limit physical effort, cover the extremities of the body, stay at home as long as possible … These advice from Inpes and the Ministry of Health, Youth, Sports and Community Life, are broadcast on posters and via three radio spots during this very cold period.
First advice: stay at home, without overheating, by stocking up to avoid going out. The evening is the most dreadful period, the one when it is coldest, so it is better to stay at home during this period. Avoid taking babies and young children out, even if they are well protected.
If a person still has to put their nose outside, they must remember to cover themselves well, paying particular attention to the extremities, hands, feet, head, neck. If there is a risk of hypothermia or frostbite, cover these parts of the body well, but also the nose and mouth to breathe less cold air. Good shoes prevent slipping on patches of ice.
Before using the car, it is best to check its general condition and consult the weather forecast. Outdoor physical efforts are not recommended, as they may worsen any cardiovascular problems.
Finally, alcohol consumption is not recommended, and contrary to popular belief, the drink does not heat up. Another advice, of solidarity, Inpes recommends preventing the 115 if you meet a homeless person in difficulty in the street.
