What is an eyelash serum used for?
As its name suggests, an eyelash serum nourishes the eyelashes and eyebrows thanks to their targeted active ingredients. These include, for example, biotin, castor oil, olive oil or vitamins C and E. They promote hair growth, thicken it and improve its strength and density. They also provide good hydration and contribute to the regeneration of hair follicles. Result: doe eyes with curved, long and voluminous lashes.
This care can take two forms:
- In mascara: apply directly as a base, before colored mascara
- By brush: applied flush with the eyelashes, precisely at the root, so as to reach the follicles and bring out a stunning result
Eyelash serums are tested by ophthalmologists and are therefore safe for lenses and contact lenses. They are free of elements potentially harmful to health, such as polyvinylpyrrolidone synthetic polymers or phenoxyethanol preservatives. The former are considered carcinogenic, while the latter are endocrine disruptors.
How to use an eyelash serum?
Eyelash serums are used on cleansed eyelashes and eyebrows. To do this, start with a make-up remover formula, ideally greasy, to remove any residue from eyebrow pencils or mascara. Do not hesitate to use a make-up remover oil which already provides good hydration at this level.
Remember to remove your lenses before applying the serum. The latter varies according to the format of the serum. If it has a fine brush, as for eyeliners, draw a line on the lower and upper eyelids, up to the root of the eyelashes. Serums with a brush are used like a classic mascara. However, take care to distribute the treatment evenly over the entire length of your eyelashes.
On the eyebrow side, the application can be carried out with the fingers or with a brush, and always in the direction of regrowth.
In both cases, take care that the material does not reach the eyes. Let it dry for a few seconds before applying your usual mascara.
