Plants that soothe
They are sold without a prescription. Passionflower, hawthorn, valerian, henbane and lemon balm are traditionally used against anxiety. As with any medicine, the doses indicated must be respected. It is therefore better to ask the pharmacist for advice. Warning: some herbal products contain small amounts of phenobarbital, which may cause drowsiness.
Homeopathy against exam stress
The “great classic” anti-trac in homeo is Gelgsemium 9 CH: 3 granules per day in the preceding month and 3 granules, three or four times a day during the examination. Also to try: Argentum nitricum 7 CH, 3 pellets, three times a day during the examination.
What about stress medication?
The doctor is the sole judge of their interest. No self-medication: if you take anxiolytics, do not give them to your child. The drug must adapt to the person, but also to the circumstances in which it is used: the fear of the plane and that of the examination are not treated in the same way. It is imperative to do a test a few days before the exam because some products can cause drowsiness or memory lapses. In other words, it would be counterproductive!
Propanolol, a beta-blocker generally prescribed to lower blood pressure, is the anti-jitters par excellence. It is not sedative (calming), but suppresses the manifestations of anxiety, palpitations, trembling by blocking the action of adrenaline. However, it has contraindications: it is not recommended in case of asthma or slow heartbeat. It is therefore better to “test” it a few days before to make sure that it does not cause any undesirable effects. On the day of the exam, the student must take one tablet one hour before the start of the exams.
Anxiolytics are sometimes indicated in the most anxious. Those who are already on treatment will continue it.
A solution to avoid absolutely : medicines sold on the Internet, which may contain dangerous substances. The famous melatonin is useless, because its natural production by the body is at its maximum between 13 and 17 years.
