In an interview granted to the Parisian, Prof. François Golfier from the French National College of Gynecologists and Obstetricians (CNGOF) reveals that French gynecologists intend to draw the attention of public authorities to endometriosis, a disease that affects one in 10 women of childbearing age. “Our hobbyhorse is the development of regional expert centers to federate skills. The English have had them for ten years. We need around thirty in France” emphasizes the doctor.
Disease long ignored (it does not appear in the medical examination), endometriosis is finally emerging from the shadows. As proof, the Assistance publique-Hôpitaux de Paris (APHP) has just launched the first major research dedicated to endometriosis in France. The College of Gynecologists and patient associations hope that this will be accompanied by the creation of expert-labeled centers allowing skills to be pooled in order to ensure better patient follow-up. But who says label, says public funding. And that’s the rub.
“Instead, we are offered obscure care channels. That is why we are determined to fight” insists the gynecologist.
