Dashcam videos are like the food at a restaurant: it’s just that little bit more fun when it’s local. That’s why we’re very happy with the arrival of the second upload this year from Dutch Dashcam as a change from all the silly Russian movies – if only because of the Dutch ‘oofs’ and ‘come dan’s’ from the cabin.
For the video of the screenshot above, you need to jump to 1 minute and 30 seconds. The driver of a Mercedes C-Class Coupé tries to overtake a VW Polo on the right. The Polo continues to look like this on the left due to merging traffic, but we can’t see what preceded the images. The driver overestimates the acceleration of his Mercedes (or the Polo accelerates) and runs out of space. He has to abruptly back to the left but apparently unconsciously makes a Scandinavian flick. He shoots into the berm and flies over the head.
You can see at 3:05 that you sometimes have to adjust your speed to the weather conditions, but that you can sometimes go too far, as the driver proves at 3:40. In Groningen, a driver of a convertible drives so slowly through the snow on the highway that another driver can hardly brake in time. Perhaps this driver also drove a little too fast – you can judge that for yourself. Also, don’t miss the truck driver rescue at 4:15.
