Research shows that Dutch households are increasingly combining subscriptions for video streaming services. Compared to last year, this has increased by 5 percent to 24 percent. Especially Amazon Prime Video is often taken ‘on the side’.
That researched market analyst Telecom paper. In addition to a Netflix subscription, 85 percent of Dutch households also have an Amazon Prime Video subscription. According to the researchers, this has to do with the low cost of Prime Video and the fact that a Prime subscription also includes free shipping costs at the Amazon webshop.
If we look into our own crystal ball, we can bet that this trend will continue for a while. After all, more and more streaming services are being added and each has its own unique range of films and series. Netflix, Videoland, Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ are especially popular here, while HBO Max will also be coming to the Netherlands next year.
Increasing costs
On the other hand, subscriptions are not exactly cheaper. Netflix recently increased its prices and the price of Disney+ has also risen once in the past. The question is how long the combination of several subscriptions will remain attractive, if individual subscriptions become more and more expensive.
