What to avoid
pretend to be a hero
Rescue someone drowning can be dangerous if you don’t know how to swim well. The person risks clinging to their rescuer and dragging them with them.
Wanting to extract water from the lungs
Once the victim is out of the water, hazardous handling must be avoided.
What to do
If the person is in the water and conscious
Throw something at her that she can hold on to.
If it’s a child
Suspend him by his feet to empty the water from his bronchial tubes. A rudimentary but effective method.
If she’s already unconscious
Bring her back to the edge of the water without putting herself in danger and check if she is breathing.
If she breathes
Turn it on its side, lateral safety positionto prevent her from choking if she vomits.
If she’s not breathing
The person is placed on their back and given a cardiorespiratory massage (mouth to mouth and cardiac massage) while waiting for help to arrive. When performing these gestures, water may come out of the victim’s mouth.
Do not bathe anywhere!
Not shy, nutria are lake rodents sometimes carrying a serious disease, leptospirosis. Wanting to touch them or swim in infested water is risky. It is therefore necessary to be well informed before bathing in fresh water. Last year, in Corsica, a small schistosomiasis epidemic broke out after swimming in the Cavu river.
