Offering road traffic courses adapted to people with learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, here is a rather interesting idea, which is worth taking a moment to stop.
Make the courses accessible to people with “dys”
Our colleagues from Figaro were interested in driving schools like no other. Schools that offer traffic and driver training for people with cognitive impairment : dyslexia, dysphasia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia, dysorthographies, disturbances in attention …. This concept has been in existence in Lyon for three years and the results are rather encouraging.
People with dysphasia, dyslexia or dyspraxia have indeed more difficult than others to understand written and spoken instructions. This is why the French Driving School (ECF) Lyon has decided to set up adapted courses. ” The idea is to dissect the basic elements to be able to start a classical training serenely. », Explains Christelle Oberholz, director of ECF Lyon, in the columns of Figaro.
An adapted training for a better understanding
In these driving schools, instructors receive special training from the French Federation of Dys (FFDYS). ” Our instructors learn to avoid abstract and indirect formulations that can disturb », Specifies Christelle Oberholz. ” When talking about a traffic lane, some dys will understand ‘voice’ and think it is speech and will be completely disoriented. “.
In France, 6 to 8% of the population would be affected by “dys” disorders.. 4 to 5% of students in an age group are dyslexic, 3% are dyspraxic and 2% are dysphasic. Once the code is well understood thanks to these alternative learning methods, people with “dys” will be able to drive without presenting the slightest danger to other motorists.
