Several companies offer kits for analyzing the fecal DNA of dogs. The method could be used to identify and condemn masters “forgetting” to collect the droppings.
It doesn’t smell good for dog owners. It may soon be possible to get revenge on the dishonest master who let his animal relieve himself right outside your house, taking advantage of the morning torpor to spoil your day. How? ‘Or’ What ? By denouncing it thanks to a DNA test of said poop. Sampling possible on the sidewalk, or directly on the shoe.
The Bordeaux company Animagène offers a small case of the perfect investigator of the canine excrement analysis brigade. The sample taken (discreetly and with dignity) is sent to its laboratories which will analyze it, and can compare it to a database previously filled with dogs and their owners.
The objective: to force dog owners to collect poop by threat. Big commission, but big logistics too, estimates the town hall of Bordeaux which was offered the project. “Too expensive and too complicated to make an exhaustive list of all dogs,” Jean-Louis David, deputy mayor in charge of urban life, told France Bleu.
However, the cost of cleaning is not negligible. In Paris, for example, it would amount to 5 million euros per year! And the PV of 65 euros that the law provides for careless people is not often distributed.
Condemned to pick up
Some cities elsewhere have already shown a certain interest in the Bordeaux concept or in its competitors. According to Science & Future, London City Hall is said to have asked dog owners to send a fecal sample of their best friend. Once registered and identified, the master can be found in the event of an infringement. The penalty: 80 pounds (more than 100 euros), to which could be added the costs of analysis.
In the United States, some residential areas have already set conditions for the installation of people with dogs. Residents of a luxury Chicago building had until January 31 to take their sample and send it to their management company, which can now fine them: $ 250 for a first poo, and up to ‘to $ 350 for recidivist wild defecators.
