Sarah Salmona, 32, is a French teacher with myopathy since birth. In addition to her fight against neuromuscular disease, this woman campaigns for a better consideration of people with disabilities. In a video posted on June 20 on Facebook, the young woman protests against the deterioration of the conditions of care for disabled French people. Filmed in her classroom, Sarah asks the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron to implement concrete measures to keep his “promise” made before his election to make taking disability into account one of the projects of his government. “Mr. Macron, you say you want to make disability a priority of your five-year term and I am delighted. […]. But there is one measure that you have not mentioned and which seems fundamental to me, and that is to guarantee citizens like me, with disabilities, enough human help to allow them to live a dignified and independent life, ”she says facing the camera.
“I am not an isolated case”
Aid for disabled people, promoting their autonomy, has been reduced, seriously affecting daily life.
“Today without the physical and financial help of my parents who are 70 years old I would no longer be able to live alone at home in my apartment, I would no longer be able to go to work.” Sarah believes that she is not an isolated case: “this restriction of human aid is spreading”.
We do not know if the message was received by the President of the Republic, one thing is certain: the open letter from Sarah Salmona made a real buzz on social networks with more than 367,000 views on Facebook. It elicited many messages of support.
