Behind the scenes, the VPRO, NPO Innovation and NPO 3FM have been working on an online song contest with the theme: how do you write a hit with artificial intelligence? It is an experiment to investigate whether computers can make a similar hit to Duncan Laurence’s ‘Arcade’.
Teams from all over Europe and Australia are taking part in the experiment. All songs will be available from April 10th to listen online can be voted on. The winning song will be announced on Tuesday 12 May. More information about this competition can be found on the international website of the VPRO.
In addition, the VPRO is starting a YouTube series in which, among other things, the Dutch team is followed during the making process of the Dutch entry. In addition to a computer, the Dutch team consists of Willie Wartaal and Janne Spijkervet.
Television
On May 16, Chantal Janzen, Jan Smit and Edsilia Rombley will reflect on the Eurovision Song Contest with ‘Eurovision: Europe Shine A Light’. In addition, all 41 participants will participate in a digital rendition of Love Shine A Light, the song with which Katrina and the Waves won the festival in 1997. Many other participating countries will also devise their own program around the Song Contest.
The Eurovision Song Contest
The ‘real’ festival will be postponed for a year for the time being. The 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Rotterdam on 18, 20 and 22 May.
