“Helping people make the best food choices and adopt a more active lifestyle. » This is the objective of the new dietary recommendations published by Public Health France this Tuesday, January 22, after three years of development. Exit the “eat 5 fruits and vegetables a day” and “eat move” hammered for eighteen years.
The focus is now on food groups to consume more, such as fruits and vegetables, pulses, whole grain products or nuts, but also those to reduce. Indications that will be the subject of a vast communication campaign next spring.
Simplified directions
Public Health France first tested these new concepts with several samples of the population, aged 18 to 64, as well as health and social professionals. All the foods were then divided into three groups: increase, move towards, reduce.
“We wanted to give broad guidelines rather than quantified objectives. These formulations are perceived as less restrictive by the general public. They bring about a gradual change, adapting to the rhythm of each one »explains Anne-Juliette Serry, head of the Food and Physical Activities Unit of the agency on his site. Thus, it is recommended:
to increase
- Fruits and vegetables
- Pulses (lentils, chickpeas, beans)
- Unsalted nuts (almonds, walnuts, etc.)
- Homemade
- “Dynamic” physical activity, 30 minutes a day
To go towards
- Whole grain products (breads, pasta, rice, semolina)
- Consuming fatty and lean fish alternately
- Sufficient but limited consumption of dairy products
- Rapeseed, olive, walnut oil
- Seasonal and locally produced foods
- organic food
To reduce
- Red meat (beef, veal, lamb, pork) with a limit of 500 g per week
- Charcuterie, with a limit of 150 g per week
- Sweet products and drinks
- salty products
- The alcohol
- The time spent sitting
Nutri-Score support
To help consumers make the best choice of food, Public Health France also recommends the use of Nutri-Score, which uses five colors to identify the nutritional quality of a product. However, its use still depends on the goodwill of manufacturers, and is thus not systematic. In addition, the recommendations for children, pregnant women and the elderly will be published later.
