For the union of dermatologists, the suspension of Diane 35 is more of a political decision than a scientific one. A questioning of the ANSM which is added to others.
Dermatologists react in turn. Their union (1), deplores the suspension of anti-acne drug Diane 35. The Sndv regrets that the National Agency for the Safety of Medicines and Health Products (ANSM) has had “a reaction more political than scientific”.
“On the information available, there is no reason to suspend Diane 35. Our concern is that the ANSM acts as a firefighter, contenting itself with extinguishing the fire because there was a complaint. This decision is misinformation, ”said the president, Dr. Luc Sulimovic.
Another challenge to the ANSM’s decision to suspend Diane 35. In an interview granted at the end of January to why actor, Pr Brigitte Dreno, dermatologist at the Nantes University Hospital, confided that the suspension of Diane 35 did not pose a problem in the treatment of acne but made it difficult when this drug was also used as a contraceptive.
Doubts also expressed by other specialists. The union of gynecologists (Syngof) expressed in early February its reservations about the suspension of this drug. The substitution of Diane 35 by harmless products will not be easy, any drug carrying risks, argued the doctors.
A point of view also defended by Michèle Delaunay, Minister Delegate in charge of the Elderly and Autonomy. This dermatologist-oncologist suggested a week ago that the decision to suspend Diane 35 was brutal to say the least. “If we banned all the drugs that were the cause in 20 years of five accidents, our pharmacopoeia would not be very broad.”
With these reservations, several doctors and observers are looking to the side of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) which must rule on the decision to suspend France. In any case, Dr Luc Sulimovic “takes the bet. I am sure that the EMA will challenge the ANSM’s request, ”he says.
