Brushing your teeth at noon would not necessarily be useful.
Until now, dental hygiene recommendations have been to brush your teeth 3 times a day for at least 3 minutes.
The only thing is, one in four French people did not brush their teeth at lunchtime; as for the duration of brushing, it generally did not exceed 57 seconds!
The UFSBD (French Union for Oral Health) has therefore decided toupdate its recommendations taking into account the realities of daily life and current scientific knowledge. Thus, it was pointed out that brushing at midday was not essential since dental plaque takes about twelve hours to form.
The new recommendations are therefore as follows
- Brush your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes : the toothbrush must be tilted at 45 ° to the teeth. Brushing should be done from the gum towards the outer edge of the tooth (outer face then inner face).
- Preferably use fluoride toothpaste: fluoride contributes to the hardening of the enamel.
- Every night, floss.
- See a dentist at least once a year, from an early age. Children should make a habit of brushing their teeth from an early age. In fact, decaying deciduous teeth can infect the germs of future permanent teeth that are just below.
- After the midday meal, rinse your mouth with a glass of water and chew sugar-free chewing gum : chewing produces saliva which will help fight against acid attacks from certain foods and protect tooth enamel.
The UFSBD also recommends a balanced diet avoiding hidden sugars and especially snacking between meals.
The use of a mouthwash after meals is also strongly recommended.
As for electric toothbrushes, the UFSBD fully validates their use since they allow 40,000 movements per minute (against 600 for conventional brushing) while respecting the teeth.
