a stopped taken by the Ministry of the Economy and that of Health in February 2017 published on Legifrance, announces the decrease in reimbursement of Botox (botulinum toxin). If the purchase price of the toxin and the remuneration of hospital practitioners do not change, the establishment in which this treatment is carried out will be billed only 175 euros to social security and no longer 300. This measure goes badly with the hospital neurologists, reports Europe 1. Practitioners believe that this treatment is “vital” for some people, especially for relieving neuropathic pain in patients who cannot bear the side effects of drugs usually used. With the decrease in reimbursement for Botox, hospital neurologists are worried that patients can no longer have access to this care. Botox injections are essential for patients with neurological pathologies (such as multiple sclerosis) but also for those affected by neuromuscular diseases linked to a Stroke. Botulinum toxin, for example, considerably improves elasticity and muscle tone in stroke survivors.
Botox is not used for cosmetic purposes only
The uses of botulinum toxin are far from being purely cosmetic. Besides its use for patients with neuropathic pain or those who have suffered a stroke, Botox also helps to treat thearrhythmia, to alleviate migraines and to stop theurinary incontinence.
