Cupra appears to be developing a sporty version of Seat’s 7-seater SUV, the Tarraco. Family but muscular, the vehicle could offer at least 245 hp. Prototype road tests would have started recently, which suggests a presentation in 2022.
Officially, Cupra no longer plans to launch any vehicle derived from a Seat model. The brand’s current Leon and Ateca are said to be the ultimate representatives of the days when Cupra was the sporting arm of the other Iberian manufacturer. Because the future lies with new vehicles for the newly independent firm, starting with the electric city car Born. However, if one relies on the statistics of ANFAC (Spanish Association of Manufacturers), eight Cupra Tarraco were registered on the other side of the Pyrenees in July 2021. These are presumably development prototypes of a muscular variant of Seat’s family SUV, not yet officially announced.

An SUV for families in a hurry
The Cupra Tarraco should be a slightly more upscale alternative to its “cousin” the Skoda Kodiaq RS. The latter is powered by a 2.0 l TSI four-cylinder petrol engine with 245 hp. Seat already offering a 245 hp Tarraco plug-in hybrid, the Cupra Tarraco could offer 300 hp. It remains to be seen whether this cavalry will come from 100% thermal mechanics or from a plug-in hybrid engine.

Tarraco even more imposing in Cupra
The most muscular of the Tarraco should take up all the aesthetic attributes with which Cupra is currently building its image. We can therefore expect to find copper details, such as the grille logo, piping on the rims or even stitching in the interior. A more aggressive body kit than that of the Seat Tarraco FR is also to be expected, such as lowered ground clearance and more generously sized rims. The Cupra Tarraco could be officially unveiled in 2022.
