The Cupra Born, the Spanish cousin of the Volkswagen ID.3, will raise the tone at the end of the year with a VZ version offering a temporary e-boost. This option will occasionally increase the power from 204 to 230 hp. Discovery.
Unveiled last May, the Cupra Born, the compact electric sedan, technical cousin of the Volkswagen ID.3 will arrive in dealerships in November 2021. The car is present at the Munich Motor Show, where it takes its first walkabout. It can be seen in the window in the Cupra City Garage, well established in the city center.

A temporary increase in power
The Cupra Born’s commercial policy will be played out in two stages with, at launch, a heart-of-the-range version of 204 hp powered by the intermediate capacity battery (58 kWh) approved for a range of 420 km. At the end of the year, this same 204 hp engine will benefit froman option called e-boost, which will temporarily increase the power to 230 hp. The models which will have this additional power will be called Cupra Born VZ and will leave the choice between two battery capacities: the intermediate of 58 kWh / 420 km of which we spoke to you above and the “large” battery (77 kWh) allowing then journeys of 545 km. Note that, in the latter case, the size of the accumulator is such that it encroaches on the passenger compartment and transforms the Cupra Born into a four-seater vehicle against five for the other models in the range.
VZ: Cupra’s GTI label?
The VZ acronym is not new to the Cupra range. It is already present on the Cupra Formentor e-Hybrid VZ and Cupra Formentor VZ5. The first being a plug-in hybrid version of the 245 hp Iberian SUV. The second is the version powered by a 390 hp five-cylinder engine. This engine is none other than the block 2.5 TFSI well known in the Audi range, since it officiates in particular under the hood of the RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback.
You will understand, the VZ label is in a way the equivalent of the acronym GTI. For its part, the Volkswagen ID.3 is already one step ahead and aims even higher with an ID.3 GTX variant that will offer 300 hp. The latter was prefigured by the ID.X concept car deploying a power of 333 hp. From there to think that the future ID.3 GTX will also have a temporary boost adding 30 hp …
