The Crocs, sandals acclaimed by millions of people around the world, are said to be bad for the health of the feet, reveal two American podiatrists.
With this news, fashion fans are going to get their feet wet. As the warm weather approaches, Crocs sandals, a kind of colorful plastic clog, are making a comeback. Often reputed to be super-comfortable and practical, these unsightly sandals are nevertheless not good for the health of the feet. In interview granted to American newspaper Huffingtonpost, two podiatrists assure you: Crocs damage joints and tendons and even deform the toes. Added to this are the risks of “nail, corns or callus problems”. A testimony to the charge which castigates these shoes, sold for around thirty euros, each year to nearly 300 million copies in 90 countries.
Risky to the heels
According to the two podiatrists, Dr Megan Leah and Dr Alex Kor, the Crocs “do not provide enough heel support. When it is unstable, the toes tend to curl up to hold the shoes, which can cause tendonitis, ”they underline in their interview. Praised by tourists, these sandals – which attract the wrath of fashion enthusiasts – are also worn by nurses, caregivers and hospital doctors. They wash quickly and well, and are comfortable. Something to seduce health workers. Nevertheless, already convinced of the harmful effects of sandals, some countries have already banned the wearing of Crocs in hospitals for safety reasons, as in Canada, the United States or even Great Britain. With their holes on the surface, the plastic shoes did not sufficiently protect workers from blunt instruments.
“Unfortunately, they are not made to be worn all day,” recalls the specialists. However – do not panic – occasionally wearing Crocs does not represent a real danger, they end reassuringly. The latter could even be suitable for certain patients, like those “who have a very high arch or those who suffer from excessive edema of their legs or ankles”, detail podiatrists.
