On the occasion of his weekly update held this Thursday, October 22, 2020, Olivier Véran accompanied other ministers including Jean Castex, to take stock of the health situation in France linked to Covid-19 . The Prime Minister and the Minister of Health announced, among other things, the extension of the curfew for 38 new departments.
54 departments under curfews for six weeks
The flagship measure of this situation is the addition of 38 new departments under curfews. Polynesia is also on the list of departments affected by these restrictions. Jean Castex thus announced: “ The curfew will apply from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. throughout the territory of the departments concerned and, normally, for a period of six weeks. “.
The establishment of the curfew will take effect on the night of Friday 23 to Saturday 24 October at midnight. ” This means that at 9 p.m. everyone must be at home and that with some exceptions all places open to the public will be closed. »Explained the Prime Minister. In total, 54 departments and one overseas territory will be subject to the curfew rule, which represents 46 million citizens.

“The month of November will be trying”
” Let’s say it clearly: the situation is serious in Europe, it is serious in France »Declared the Prime Minister. The number of cases has doubled in 15 days and the bed occupancy rate has exceeded 44% in the country. This is why Jean Castex has unveiled a new map of the epidemic in France. According to him, ” The coming weeks will be tough, our hospital services will be strained and the death toll will continue to rise. […] November will be trying, we already know that “.
If the virus circulates less quickly than during the first wave, its diffusion remains alarming. According to the data, there were 10 patients diagnosed per 100,000 French in August against 250 per 100,000 French currently. While the Prime Minister considers that it is too early to know the effects of the curfew, the Minister of Health recalls that “ When generalized containment was put in place in our country, the curves started to bend after 15 to 18 days “.
Finally, it was announced on October 22 that the StopCovid application is officially replaced by TousAntiCovid. The principle is the same but the application includes new functionalities.
