For 51 days, the confinement imposed by the Covid-19 epidemic upset the daily lives of the French, even in their eating habits. Public Health France has looked into these changes in habits and affirms that the tendency to snack and weight gain has increased over the confinement. According to their results:
- 27% of respondents said have gained weight (compared to 11% having lost some)
- 17% consider that their diet is less balanced than before confinement
- 37% have cooked home-cooked meals more than usual (compared to 4% less than usual)
- 22% have snacked between meals more than usual.
An average weight gain of 2.5 kg
An Ifop study carried out at the end of confinement for Darwin nutrition with 3000 French people, confirms the conclusions of Public Health France. This study indeed showed that our small nibbles had had a real impact on our waistline, with an average weight gain of 2.5 kg.
No wonder, according to nutritionist Laurence Plumey, interviewed on BFMTV. These small kilos “represent roughly a surplus of 300 calories per day. And 300 calories, it goes very quickly: a pain au chocolat, a few nibbled biscuits, a slightly more hearty meal…” But the kilos are not only due to our new cravings for homemade cakes. The decline in physical activity also created this caloric surplus. “To all this is also added the frustration, sometimes the anxiety linked to the current situation. And the best antidote is often sugar” adds the nutritionist.
How to lose those pounds?
Good news, it is now possible to do sports individually without restriction of activity or schedule. It will also be an opportunity to revise your diet to lose the pounds of confinement.
According to the Ifop poll, to lose those kilos of confinement, 56% of those questioned planned to eat healthier and more balanced, but without dieting in the strict sense. This will be an opportunity, for example, to discover the best fat-burning foods. Or replace pasta with asparagus or zucchini and aperitifs with light drinks.
“During the period of confinement, the French rediscovered the pleasure of cooking at home. The increase in visits to the mangerbouger.fr site also testifies to their growing interest in cooking and physical activity to be practiced at home. home. This new habit experienced positively could become a lasting part of their daily life after deconfinement. This trend will be to be followed, “says Anne-Juliette Serry, head of the nutrition and physical activity unit at Public Health France.
