The nutri-score, launched in 2016, is attracting more and more consumers to the point that they would like to make it mandatory.
Nutritional labeling on all products
In a forum in Parisien-Today in France, health professionals, learned societies and consumer and patient associations are asking that Nutri-Score nutritional labeling be compulsory. The 5-color system, ranging from A to E and green to red, establishes the nutritional quality of processed food products.
The associations call on citizens to sign the European citizens’ initiative Pronutriscore, created to make it compulsory to affix the Nutri-Score nutritional logo on the packaging of food products in Europe. For the European executive to take a decision, one million signatures are required according to European legislation. You can sign the petition through the official website of the Commission www.pronutriscore.org.
Food, essential for good health
Nutri-score labeling would thus give consumers all the information they need to choose the best processed food products. Food has a significant impact on the development of diseases such as cardiovascular disease, obesity, but also diabetes and cancer. Good nutrition can also limit the chances of developing any of these diseases. The ideal remains to eat unprocessed foods.
The indications currently appearing on the packaging of products are difficult to understand, sometimes illegible, and can mislead consumers. According to an OpinionWay survey, 62% of French people consider the indications to be not very transparent. However, compulsory labeling of easily understandable processed food products would allow better prevention in the face of these risks.
