The opening of many shops and the multiplication of advertisements for CBD products raises the question of their health impact. Amine Benyamina, addictologist and vice-president of Addictions France, takes stock of the issue.
- In France, there are already just over 400 CBD shops, and this market is growing.
- If the sale of CBD is tolerated, production in France is still prohibited.
– Why doctor – What is CBD and what are its effects?
Amine Benyamina- CBD, or cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid found naturally in the cannabis plant. Currently, the recognized effects are protective effects with respect to psychotic conversion disorders and psychiatric pathologies. When it is prescribed or administered, it is found to have relaxation, relaxation and sleep-improving effects.
– Legal or illegal, should we consume it? If so, in which cases?
It is not prohibited but there is a legal vagueness. There is an order that has been issued by a European legal body that authorizes the consumption of CBD provided that it does not exceed 0.2% THC. In truth, it’s on a grown plant sample, so it’s pretty unclear. As long as the regulations are not clear and consumption is not supervised, I do not prescribe it and I do not advocate it.
– What is your position on the opening of CBD shops?
For me, it’s anything and everything. They position themselves in the perspective of legalization, which can be understood from a mercantile or pecuniary point of view. But from a health point of view, it is necessary to create a very specific French sector and clearly specify in the text of the law what is authorized. From there, we can liberalize and regulate the consumption of CBD for therapeutic or cosmetic reasons, or even for consumption for personal use.
– Can you become addicted to CBD? What are the dangers ?
No, in theory you are not addicted to cannabidiol, because there are no psychotropic effects. However, we do not yet know the effects on health, because these products are recent. A priori, there is no risk, but it is always useful to know what one consumes, in which quantity and on which population. Only time will tell.
