Citroën is celebrating the first anniversary of its Ami electric quadricycle, with a positive sales report: more than 9,000 units have been sold, including 6,500 in France. To celebrate this success, Citroën announces the arrival of the Friend in the United Kingdom from 2022.
Officially launched in May 2020 with us, the Citroën Friend recently celebrated its first full year on the market. The brand takes the opportunity to draw a first commercial report, rather positive, of the electric quadricycle. Despite youthful problems, which persist, the Friend sold himself to 9,000 copies in Europe, including 6,500 units in France alone.
L’Ami attracts new customers to Citroën
Citroën claims that the majority of clients live in small towns and cities rural areas, where the public transport network is scarce. Where it is easy to park and recharge your vehicle. The Friend is therefore not exclusively city-dweller. The chevron brand has identified two main types of private customers:
- already multi-motorized households (77% of buyers), often families with children who share the Friend for short trips in addition to bicycles or other vehicles (for long trips);
- those who use the Ami as their main means of transport, especially city dwellers who prefer the closed electric quadricycle to two-wheelers or crowded public transport.
Over 40% of users are under 18
For Citroën, the Friend is a real tool of conquest: most buyers are not Citroën customers, and some do not even have a driving license! Indeed, the Friend drives from the age of 14 with a simple road safety certificate and eight hours of driving school training. According to the French brand, the Friend is ” the second or third means of mobility of the household “, with ” more than 40% of users who are under 18 years “. The price, from € 19.99 / month for rental and € 6,900 cash (excluding bonus), is the main attraction according to the brand, in front of the environmental conscience, the autonomy allowed to the young people and the innovative aspect of the vehicle. Fleets, such as the rental company FreeToMove, or the Air Force have adopted this new mobility object. Since May 2021, professionals have also been targeted for last mile delivery with the My Ami Cargo variant.
