A Citroën 2CV cabriolet, transformed in this way using a kit marketed by Hoffmann in the 1980s, has just been sold for €15,000 at auction. This is one of many rare and original versions of the 2CV.
In the 1980s, a former German distributor of Citroën named Wolfgang Hoffmann designed with his son Félix a convertible version of the 2CV, marketed as a kit and approved by the German certification body TÜV. 1,700 kits were reportedly sold, along with 250 pre-assembled cars. The Hoffmann 2CV cabriolet is therefore a rare object. A 1986 copy has just resurfaced for auction.

A “vintage” and high-end style
To design his 2CV Cabriolet, Hoffmann only kept the chassis, the front part and the mechanics of the 2CV, creating a plastic-reinforced fiberglass structure for the rear. This material limits the intrusion of rust and the example in question here seems to be very well preserved. Its two-tone black and white body underlined by whitewall tires gives it a look that is as classy as it is retro. White seats and black hood extend the finish in the cabin.

A collector’s 2CV at a reasonable price
The car was offered for auction on the Internet from April 22 to 25, 2022 by the house Osenat. Estimated between €17,000 and €18,000, it finally found a buyer for “only” €15,000, which could almost pass for a bargain given the prices recently achieved by some exceptional Citroën 2CVs. These, however, were all stock cars with dealership mileages. The 2CV Hoffmann is however no less rare and this sale proves that you can still find atypical “deuches” relatively affordable.
