The Porsche 911 GT3 wins the Huracán STO
For me, this year two cars stood out above all others: the Porsche 911 GT3 and the Lamborghini Huracán STO. I just want to give the latter an honorable mention because it’s so exhilarating to drive – it really surprised me. It really is the kind of car that makes you feel alive. It’s fantastically balanced, and that engine – wow.
But the Porsche 911 GT3 is my winner. What is it with Porsche and these cars? They are the essence of the company for me. Porsche is very impressive right now as they are going fast on the EV front, and then you have the Cayenne Turbo GT.
I’m not interested in that at all, but it seems to drive incredibly well. You would think that such things are distracting, but in between all that, Porsche also builds a small car called the GT3. They don’t make them often, but every time it’s an absolute home run.
Hugely impressive
You’d think there might be a bit of complacency by now, because let’s face it, if Porsche just relaunched the previous GT3, they’d have sold every copy in no time – twice. But with each new generation, this car takes another big step. How they managed to squeeze in a new double wishbone front suspension I will never know. It’s huge, hugely impressive.
I’d go for the Touring package without the rear wing myself, because I think you should use a car like this every day. My 991 GT3 now has 76,000 kilometers on its odometer, but so many people just leave them in the garage… Go out and drive that thing!
