Daughter of one of the founders of Social Security, Dr Nicole Delépine is responsible for the pediatric oncology unit at Raymond Poincaré de Garches University Hospital (APHP). This medical unit, unique in France, has the specificity of offering children and adolescents with serious tumors medical therapy based on individualized clinical care.
However, as the retirement of Dr Delépine approaches, scheduled for July, after thirty years of practice, it is a question of closing this pediatric oncology department and transferring the children to the pediatric department of the Ambroise hospital. -Paré of Boulogne-Billancourt.
Second Chance Hospital
This prospect of closing the service has provoked the anger of parents, who have just filed a complaint for “neglect” with the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Nanterre. “The specific methods for treating the sick in Garches will not be put into practice in Boulogne. We just want to be able to choose the medicine used to treat our children, ”stress the parents.
The pediatric oncology department of Garches hospital received around 40 children and adolescents in 2013. It mainly treats bone, nervous and muscular cancers, and brain tumors. It is often seen as the second chance establishment because it is identified as having saved lives and prevented amputations in cases where other establishments have sometimes felt that nothing more could be done.
