When washing your vehicle with rollers, it is important to properly lock all its doors, in order to avoid accidents … Obviously, the owner of this Range Rover Evoque has learned it the hard way.
In car wash stations, there is a quick and rather efficient cleaning system (even if it can quickly lead to micro-scratches on the bodywork): the passage to the rollers. All you have to do is slide your vehicle under a specific gantry fitted with large rollers, which wash the car automatically without any action for the owner other than paying and selecting the program. In general, there are signs on the side of these washing gates: They advise in particular to fold the mirrors, to close the windows and to remove the antenna of the radio, often fixed on the roof. But the owner of this first generation Range Rover Evoque seems to have forgotten a small detail: his trunk. And here is the drama !
Human error ?
The rollers start their work when suddenly the Range’s electric tailgate opens. It is impossible to know if it is an error on the part of the driver (trunk not closed properly, pressing the key button, etc.) or an electronic problem with the vehicle. Still, we are helplessly witnessing the slow opening of the tailgate. The Stop button, to be actuated in an emergency, is normally located near the program selection terminal, but has obviously not been engaged. Thus, the roller inevitably goes up to the roof and takes the tailgate with it, causing it to quickly bend under the pressure exerted by the machine.
The video posted on the TikTok social network by a certain @gendosthor teaches us two things:
- make sure that all the doors are properly locked (doors but also trunk and hood), even if it means locking the car with the key.
- always stay close to your vehicle when it passes under the rollers in order to activate the emergency stop of the machine if necessary.
