Bronchiolitis leads to the hospitalization of 10,000 infants per year. To fight against this winter disease, researchers from the Cochin-Pasteur hospital have just created a vaccine against the virus responsible for the majority of cases of bronchiolitis.
A vaccine against the RSV virus to fight against bronchiolitis
Bronchiolitis affects nearly 30% of children under two. This infection of the bronchi leads to great breathing difficulties for infants who are 10,000 to be hospitalized each year.
To protect children from this winter disease, French researchers are developing a vaccine that would be given to pregnant women and that would protect the baby against the RSV virus, the main culprit in cases of bronchiolitis.
Cochin-Pasteur Hospital is looking for volunteers to test the vaccine
A study is currently being carried out at the Cochin-Pasteur hospital in Paris. ” Vaccinating a woman during pregnancy allows her to make antibodies which are then transmitted to the baby through the placenta at the end of the pregnancy. These antibodies will be able to protect him during his first weeks of life against these respiratory diseases. », Explained Odile Launay, head of the Cochin-Pasteur Vaccinology Center, interviewed on Europe 1.
The vaccine has been developed, all that remains is to test it, in vivo, on volunteers who will be paid. The hospital’s clinical investigation center is looking for women between the ages of 18 and 45. Interested parties are invited to make themselves known by telephone, on 01 58 41 28 60 or by email (francoise.delisle@aphp.fr.
