Too large breasts: unsightly and bad for your health?
Each woman perceives the size of her breasts according to her own criteria. But it is estimated that a woman has breasts of normal size when the breast has a volume of between 200 and 350 cm3 and weighs between 150 and 400 g. Beyond (or below), the size of the breasts can pose a problem to the woman, psychological or medical. A breast that is too large, over 400cm 3, may also have repercussions on health (back pain, discomfort, infection of the fold under the breast, etc.). This is called breast enlargement.
The intervention
The intervention consists in removing in particular the excess fat from the breast. You should know that the breast is made up of two parts: the mammary gland and the fatty tissue, which can represent up to 80% of the breast’s volume. The surgeon will then remove some of the glandular tissue and excess skin. The nipple and the halo are then re-centered. The duration of hospitalization is generally 3 to 4 days. But a work stoppage of 2 to 3 weeks is recommended.
Following the operation, swelling, bruising, appearance of small cysts are quite common. Depending on each skin, healing will be more or less harmonious, sometimes calling for a new intervention. Breastfeeding is usually no longer possible.
What reimbursement?
It all depends on whether the indication for breast reduction is medical or not. The intervention is considered to be of a medical nature if the threshold of 300 g is removed for each breast. In this case, in a public hospital, coverage by social security is total. Please note, when it is recognized as a psychological or social handicap by health insurance, breast hypertrophy can also be covered 100% in a public hospital. If you opt for a clinic, social security will not cover the excess fees.
