Improve your life by listening to your body
Your body is the perfect thermometer, says GP Juriaan Galavazi. In his book From Complaint to Opportunity, he gives his new vision of complaints such as headaches, fatigue, sleeping problems and abdominal pain, because according to doctor Juriaan, these complaints may be symptoms of something completely different.
Do you experience some form of resistance in your life? Are you tired and gloomy, do you find it exciting to set boundaries or are you weighed down by a disturbed relationship? Do you suffer from headaches, fatigue, sleeping problems or abdominal pain at the same time? These are the questions that Doctor Juriaan asks you through the back cover of his new book. According to him, there is a good chance that medicines will only help you temporarily.
Another vision
For better treatment, you need a different vision. It must be a vision where you let go of old thinking patterns, learn to feel your body, make contact with your inner motivations and where you learn to bear discomfort and pain. That pain may just be there.
In From complaint to opportunity, we look holistically at where your complaints come from and what you can do about it. Your body never lies, says Dr Juriaan. It works for you and not against you, but you have to give your body a helping hand by taking good care of it.
In an open, clear, loving and sometimes confrontational way, Juriaan writes how you can do this. By reflecting on the complaint and looking at it from different angles – of course without losing sight of regular care – he teaches you how to stay at the site of the discomfort and to be aware of the emotions, feelings and thoughts that come with that discomfort.
From my own experience
The general practitioner from Velsen-Zuid writes all this from his own experience. After a burnout, depression and a broken relationship, he decides to change everything. He discovers how strongly the body and mind are connected, and that his body is much smarter than his head. The choice to listen to his body from now on was made. In his general practice and during his individual sessions as a coach, he applies his new visions.
The five angles of doctor Juriaan
1. Facts
When you enter Juriaan’s consultation room and tell about your complaints, he will always first check whether additional research or a direct referral to a specialist is needed. A regular investigation based on facts is number one.
2. Emotions
Sometimes, often even, there are no direct, factual causes of the complaints you have. That is why Dr Juriaan’s second point of view is emotion. What does the complaint mean in your daily life, at work, at night or even for your environment? From here, the impact of the complaint on performance can be determined.
3. Nutrition
It’s no secret that healthy food can contribute to a better life, but also that it aids in recovery. Which nutrients are you missing in your diet, or which foods have a negative influence on your well-being?
4. Movement
Like diet, exercise is important for recovery from almost all conditions. At the same time, your complaints can affect your movement pattern. An important point of view for doctor Juriaan is to look at how exercise can (again) play a role during the recovery of the complaints.
5. Awareness
This angle actually ties in with the second. Are there underlying causes in your life that cause you to experience these complaints? There may be tension at work or in the family, which could lead to a complaint.
General practitioner Juriaan Galavazi specializes in coaching and holistic medicine. Regular medicine is and remains the basis of his practice, but it offers the opportunity to look at complaints from a broader perspective. With his coaching programs he helps people to feel fit both physically and mentally.
