BMW is currently developing the next generation of its 5 Series. Carrying the internal code G60, the German road sedan will retain a classic style and will be offered with electrified or even 100% electric engines. Its launch is scheduled for 2023.
[Mise à jour le 16/09/2021] It is in China that The first spy photos of the next generation of the BMW 5 Series have appeared on the web. This will be his eighth opus.
Despite a camouflage still hiding its ends, this brand new version of the Bavarian business sedan already suggests a grille of a reasonable size. She knows how to hide just what it takes to reassure future buyers.

Restyled in 2020, the current BMW 5 Series (G30 version) will be replaced in 2023. Known under the code G60, this new generation will undoubtedly be one of the last to opt for a more classic style than the recent productions of the German brand.
No large grille, but a plunging stern
Don’t expect to see a baroque BMW 5 Series with nostrils reaching down to the tarmac. The ninth generation of the road sedan, born in 1972, will not follow the trend set by the recent 4 Series Coupé. Of course its grille will be more imposing than that of the current generation, without falling into caricature. As for its optics, they will certainly be refined, but they will remain in one piece, not like on the future Series 7 or the restyled X7. Its silhouette will retain the cut effect of the current generation thanks to a fleeting roof line and ending far in the trunk. It will display, without doubt, the most original design of the car with a plunging aspect that the designers will have tried to balance, on certain versions, with a slight spoiler.

The recent iX gives an idea of the interior of the 5 Series
Inside, the new BMW 5 Series will take over the layout that appeared in the iX electric SUV. A dual screen, one of 12.3 inches (for instrumentation) and the other of 14.9 inches (for infotainment) will thus be placed on the dashboard and will operate thanks to the 8e generation of the iDrive.

All possible engines
For the mechanical part, the Series 5 G60 will be based on the latest evolution of the CLAR platform. From 2025, new BMW models will benefit from the new Neue Klasse modular technical base (new class). However, this will not prevent the car from having thermal, hybrid (48V and rechargeable), but also 100% electric engines.
BMW is not yet finished with the development of this new 5 Series. The sedan is therefore not expected before 2023, followed a few months later by the station wagon.
