Very popular on the internet, some products, which do not comply with regulations, carry health risks.
Beauty, but not at any cost. In a press release, the FEBEA (Federation of Beauty Companies), which represents the interests of the cosmetics industry in France, wishes to alert consumers to the popularity of a beauty product that does not comply with regulations and carries potential risks. sanitary facilities.
“In recent months, black masks with an anti-blackhead function have become a real phenomenon on social networks,” explains the Federation. The spread of videos is such that it is difficult to miss it! But recently, many reactions – irritations, burns and allergies – have been reported by users ”.

“No compliant product”
Some black masks popular on the networks are produced abroad and distributed in France via online sales platforms. A market that therefore escapes the cosmetics industry in France… The FEBEA, which represents it, has therefore decided to take the lead by ordering the three “most popular” products sold through this channel, and by analyzing compliance. labeling (their actual composition has not been checked).
According to his observations, “none of the products received comply with European regulations regarding labeling,” explains FEBEA. In addition, inconsistencies were noted between the list of ingredients and the information on the shelf life of the product. Finally, none of these products, although purchased on a French site, are labeled in French, which is however compulsory. These three products would be made in China ”.
The FEBEA indicates that it “immediately alerted the authorities to the fact that, concerning these three products, neither the manufacturers nor the distributors respect their obligations and that this can have serious consequences on the health of consumers”.
Check products
Of course, the union’s aim is to avoid having its market share eaten away by these very popular products. Moreover, the FEBEA recalls that to treat blackheads without damaging your skin, “there is a wide range of purifying cosmetic treatments, taking care to refer for black masks to reference brands on French territory”. The message could not be clearer.
But beyond this economic interest, the health argument can be heard. If it is not always sufficient to protect consumers, regulation is at least necessary, and compliance with it nevertheless provides some guarantees.
Thus, to recognize authorized products, FEBEA invites you to check that the information on the packaging is in French. These must include the list of ingredients, the batch number, the name and address of the responsible person (usually a company).
