Sleeping well would limit the risk of having a complicated sex life, explains this recent study, dedicated to women, is relayed in Menopause, the journal edited by The North American Menopause Society. When we talk about sexual disorders, it is about loss of desire, vaginismus, decrease in sexual activity… which 43% of women over 40 would testify to.
Some explanations for female sexual disorders can be found in taking medication, in taking contraceptives (the pill being known to lower the libido) or even by psychic blockages. At the time of menopause, hormonal changes add complexity to the sexual question. The genitourinary system changes under the effect of estrogen deficiency in particular.
Poor quality of sleep, poor quality of sex life
And poor sleep, in addition to many other health effects, is believed to play an important role in women’s sexual health. To come to this conclusion, the scientists studied 3,400 women, with a median age of 53. They were looking for a link between menopause, sleep disorders and sexual dysfunctions.
By asking them about their habits and problems, they realized that those who had sexual problems were the ones who slept the least well. While the others, whose sleep was serene (not necessarily longer) had good sexual health.
