“There is no need to worry.” Present on the set of the TF1 television news, Bernadette Chirac saw fit to reassure the French about the health of her husband and former President of the Republic. Jacques Chirac is well and spent Christmas with the family at home in complete serenity. The former head of state had been hospitalized on December 9 to take tests related to a state of weakening. A simple general check-up, had then specified his daughter Claude, sweeping away the rumors of declining health associated with any disease.
On December 23, Jacques Chirac, 83, was discharged from the Parisian hospital of La Pitié-Salpêtrière to join his family and celebrate the end of year celebrations.
“I can tell the French that for the moment there is no need to worry”, confirmed this Tuesday, January 5 Bernadette Chirac on the screen, on TF1.
“He was indeed hospitalized, about two weeks for additional examinations,” she explained. “He’s in a more tired state [que d’habitude] and the specialists wanted to know more. Now he’s back, we celebrated Christmas together, as a family, on New Year’s Day too.”
A discreet Jacques Chirac since 2014
The last public appearance of Jacques Chirac dates back to November 21, 2014. Looking tired and weakened, the former president has been the subject of various suspicions around his health, for a stroke in 2005 (stroke). Following this episode, rumors circulated that the head of state could suffer from Alzheimer’s disease.
