Lighting a barbecue with gasoline
The accident happened last summer: 5 people including 3 burnt serious arrived in the emergency room. “These people had lit a barbecue with gasoline, explains Dr. Vergnes-Blanquer, emergency physician at the Fréjus-Saint-Raphaël hospital center. They had taken the precaution of removing the bottle 2 meters … but without the close. ” A simple embers blown by the wind turned it into a “bomb”!
What to do
Shelter from the wind
It can cause a flashback, or trigger the start offire. The device is installed under cover on stable ground.
Remove any flammable liquid
The fire is lit with crumpled newspaper and twigs.
Equip yourself with specific gloves
We also protect ourselves with a cotton apron (not flammable)
Forbid loved ones to approach the barbecue
Especially if they are wearing loose or synthetic clothing. And we keep the children away, even after the fire is out.
How to react in the event of burns
Stop the pain with cold
The burning process continues until the area has been cooled. The application of cold (ice cubes in a washcloth or net ofCold water) must be maintained as long as the affected area is painful “We cool for a few minutes. Then we stop. If the pain persists, we start again, until it subsides” explains Dr Vergnes-Blanquer.
