BMW and Tesla thwart the Corvette (accidentally) at the Nürburgring
No one deserves it more than Chevrolet to set a Nürburgring record. Chevrolet traveled to the German circuit with the previous generation Corvette (the C7) several times, but never published an official lap time in the past ten years. Almost on every fast lap something went wrong for the Americans. With the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (C8) there seems to be another bad luck.
It has been different every time over the years. On one occasion the weather conditions simply didn’t help, the other time the organization changed the schedule so that the team had no time to warm up the tires and sometimes they just had bad luck with the technology of the car. When things did go well, the driver drove with an engine calibration that was not yet for sale and therefore the lap did not count.
Bad luck again for Corvette at the Nürburgring
According to Road and Track it’s bad luck again this year. The new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is currently doing its test rounds at Nürburgring Nordschleife. Yesterday three Corvettes were ready for a quick lap. Not an official record, because for that the circuit has to be rented and a notary must be present, but it could give a good indication whether a record is in it.
While the drivers were preparing, a BMW M8 test car crashed into the fast Kesselchen section of the track. A large part of the crash barrier had to be replaced as a result. Further on, a Tesla Model S Plaid went off the track, requiring repairs as well. This took so much time that the Corvettes could no longer take to the track. The drivers of the BMW and Tesla are doing well.
On Friday a record attempt by Corvette at the Nürburgring?
Annoying, because today is the last official test day for car brands, and therefore the last chance to set an unofficial fast lap and measure and adjust the last things. And rain is just forecast. However, there seems to be a gap in Friday’s Touristenfahrten schedule where Corvette could make an official attempt, reports R&T. The only question is whether the weather will allow it.
