While musculoskeletal disorders are the cause of 87% of occupational diseases, physiotherapists Bastien Klepper-bertrand, Pierre Gouget and Loic Piotrowski give us their valuable advice on how to avoid them.
Back pain, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome… Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) mainly affect the structures around the joints and most often occur in the back or upper limbs. “These conditions affect the muscles, tendons and nerves”, specify the physiotherapists Bastien Klepper-bertrand, Pierre Gouget and Loic Piotrowski, founders of K3W.
1/ Vary the working postures
First advice to avoid the appearance of MSDs: try to change your working position as much as possible, for example by modifying the placement of your arms or by crossing and uncrossing your legs regularly.
2/ Get up regularly
It is also necessary to integrate a movement strategy into daily life, by getting up regularly for 15 seconds, once an hour. “Active breaks are the most beneficial”, specify the three physiotherapists.
3/ Walk
Ideally, you should also walk at least 30 minutes a day, for example a quarter of an hour during the lunch break and a quarter of an hour in the evening.
4/ Favor active postures
When seated, the back should also be straight and the neck should not be leaning forward, the shoulders low and relaxed. Elbows and wrists should be as flexible and as little bent as possible.
5/ Adopt ergonomic equipment
“Having an ergonomic seat, mouse and desk are definite aids against MSDs”, also explain the physiotherapists.
6/ Maintain a work rhythm
“It is also important to keep fixed hours to work from home”add health professionals.
7/ Maintain social relations
“Finally, as MSDs are multifactorial pathologies, the psychological sphere comes into play in the development of these disorders”, they conclude. It is therefore recommended to regularly see loved ones (colleagues, friends, family, spouse, etc.).
