In the middle of the week, new suspicions of cases of Avian Flu appeared in the South-West, in the Landes department. Preventive slaughter was therefore extended to four additional municipalities, bringing to 191 the number of municipalities affected by mass slaughter of palmipeds.
At the same time, the territory of the H5N8 virus continued to expand to other countries in Europe. Spain and Slovenia have reported their first cases of bird flu in swans found dead in Spanish lagoons and in nature parks in Slovenia that tested positive for the H5N8 virus.
1.5 million poultry slaughtered in Europe
To date, 1.5 million poultry have been slaughtered in Europe, the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) has reported. Since the start of the epidemic, 761 outbreaks of influenza virus have been declared in 18 European countries. In detail, this concerns 51% of poultry and 49% of wild or captive animals.
