Longer than an extended Audi A8
Number two out of three is here. Just a month after the Skysphere, Audi pulls the curtain on the Grandsphere. The brand does this with the clichéd term ‘private jet for the road’ and enough statements that normal people make, such as ‘holistic digital ecosystem’ and ‘digital detoxification’ or ‘oasis of well-being’. Put the work of the marketing department away for a moment, and you have a seriously large Audi with a beautiful interior. Although the car itself will not go into production, this is the design direction of future Audis.
There are two lounge seats in the front of the Audi Grandsphere. The two front passengers overlook a wraparounddashboard embracing the interior. Then you immediately understand the name of the car. Of course, the dashboard is made from recycled materials. All relevant data is projected onto the dashboard. The cup holder between the seats keeps the drinks cold. The rear passengers receive a small sofa and a cozy plant.
The Audi Grandsphere drives itself
The steering wheel and pedals can fully retract when the Audi switches to lounge mode. Then the Audi Grandsphere drives completely independently and the passengers have time to watch a movie or to water the plant. Setting the temperature is done via gestures. Not necessarily something new, but it’s still a nice feature. Driving yourself? That should be fun enough too. Two electric motors produce a system power of 720 hp and 960 Nm, good for a 0-100 time of about four seconds.
No production plans
On the outside, the Audi Grandsphere is huge. With a length of 5.35 meters, it even surpasses the long version of the Audi A8. Even the 23-inch rims seem a normal size due to the size of the rest of the car. The car itself will not go into production, but there are features that will find their way into future road cars, such as the lighting. In a while, Audi will also unveil the third and final study model in the Sphere series.
