At first, Apple spoke bombastic about the upcoming SharePlay and now the new feature has suddenly been removed from iOS 15.
Apple is pulling back from its promise to release a very handy sharing feature for iOS 15. The SharePlay concept would probably have been perfect when the global lockdowns were still rife. In the meantime, we mainly see people in person again, without a screen in between. Still, it’s not entirely clear why the Cupertino company is making such a hard turn for a position that seemed roughly finished.
Apple removes SharePlay from iOS 15
It is the first time that Apple has returned to a new feature for the upcoming operating system. In a blog post let the brand know that SharePlay is no longer in the next beta of iOS 15. In addition, the sharing function will not come out with the full release of iOS 15. However, Apple is still planning to release the new option later this year.
Apple doesn’t give any reason why SharePlay won’t appear with the next OS. It always seemed like the feature was working fine (for a beta version). Users could directly ‘stream’ content, for example via iTunes and AppleTV, to others via FaceTime, among others. This allowed users to enjoy content together.
On the other hand, could sharing paid content via FaceTime, for example, cause copyright problems? Anyway, in the cryptic blog post, Apple only claims that they can’t wait to release the feature.
We have been blown away by all the enthusiasm from developers and the community because of SharePlay. We can’t wait to bring the feature to users so they can experience all the apps in a completely new context with friends and family.
