Anti-nausea drugs, used to treat motion sickness in particular, have been withdrawn from the over-the-counter pharmacy. In question, the “recreational” use that adolescents have been able to make of it.
Used to drug people without their knowledge
These are only 59 cases, but 59 too many cases of misuse of Mercalm and Nausicalm. These two drugs, often offered on self-access shelves in pharmacies, are used to limit the effects of motion sickness, starting with nausea and vomiting. But in return, these drugs induce drowsiness. They are also normally prohibited for motorists, or drivers of construction machinery, in particular.
It is this drowsiness that is sought after by some. Several cases of sexual assault have been identified on people who had previously been drugged with several tablets of these anti-nausea drugs, mixed with their drink.
Drugs that cause sequelae at high doses
In addition to this criminal use, these drugs are also sometimes used by people suffering from mental disorders. Here again, it is drowsiness that is sought after. The problem is that these drugs, taken in high doses, cause side effects which can be very serious, especially on the nervous and cardiac systems. It is even suspected that a man’s death may have been caused by consuming a whole box of an anti-nausea medication.
