Several users of Nuud deodorant cream having reported adverse effects such as painful cysts in the armpits, sometimes accompanied by an infection treated with antibiotics, the National Medicines Safety Agency (ANSM) carried out investigations .
“They showed that the galenic form of this deodorant (a predominantly oily ointment) could be responsible for this undesirable effect” explains the ANSM in a press release. The marketing of this deodorant has therefore been temporarily suspended and all batches available at points of sale have been withdrawn from the market, as well as those available from distributors.
A cream that is too greasy and clogs your pores
As the ANSM points out, it is not the ingredients of the deodorant which are responsible for the appearance of cysts in certain users, but its overly oily formulation, which “promotes the obstruction of the pores of the armpits with the possibility of a microbial superinfection, by an occlusive effect”.
By blocking pores, the cream causes sebum to build up under the skin, leading to the formation of cysts which can be painful.
On its website, the Nuud brand announces that it is currently working on developing a new, lighter formula. And she also reminds us of the precautions for using this “anti-odor” which is not used like a classic deodorant:
- Do not exceed 1 application every 2 days to avoid clogging pores.
- Do not use immediately after shaving/hair removal. Do not use on damaged skin or small wounds.
- Do not apply in situations that favor maceration, for example in cases of obesity, concomitant hair removal, or Verneuil’s disease.
