For the moment, no remedy has been found to cure the Alzheimer’s disease. The drugs delivered only allow the degeneration to be slowed down.
Boost the immune system
This pathology is characterized by an aggregation of tau proteins in nerve cells and by deposits of amyloid plaques in certain areas of the brain leading to neuron degeneration.
According to a new study published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s disease, supplementation with omega 3 and vitamin D would stimulate the immune system so that it destroys these famous plaques. Researchers at the University of California, Los Angeles, studied blood samples from two Alzheimer’s patients. They isolated macrophages, immune system cells that “eat” cell debris, foreign particles and other bacteria to protect the body. Scientists cultured these macrophages with omega 3s and vitamin D. And they found that this increased their ability to destroy beta-amyloid proteins.
A fair dosage to be evaluated
A clinical trial will be conducted to confirm these first results and to determine the necessary dosage in Omega 3 and vitamin D. Indeed, a previous study pointed out that a high consumption of omega 3 could be harmful.
Remember that apart from any supplementation, the main source of vitamin D for the body is the sun. The skin in contact with its rays produces vitamin D. It can also be found in oily fish, egg yolk, organ meats, etc. Omega-3s are present in quantity in Pisces fat (mackerel, tuna, salmon, etc.) and linseed or hemp oils in particular.
