One form of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease. The symptoms include memory loss and confused thoughts.
healthy brain are made up of millions of interconnected nerve cells, the neurons. Neurons constantly communicate with each other, exchanging signals through tentacle-like connections called axons and dendrites.
The brain is very different in an Alzheimer’s patient. The orderly network of nerve cells in healthy brains then becomes a tangled mass, full of age-related plaque and tangled knots of nerve fibers. The plaque and fiber clutter disrupt normal communication between neurons in the part of the brain that controls thinking.
The disease of Alzheimer’s affects people in different ways. From the beginning, the disease develops slowly, but with increasing speed. Some of the symptoms of Alzheimer’s include memory loss, confused thoughts, loss of direction, and poor judgment.
