Snapchat, the photo and video sharing application, will carry a message to raise awareness among young people about Alzheimer’s disease from Thursday 24 April. “Disappearing images are funny. Except when it’s your reality.” The slogan designed by the Médéric Alzheimer Foundation and the communication agency Proximity BBDO refers to the particularity of the application: to display images that fade after one to ten seconds.
The campaign, called Snapzheimer, will affect 900,000 Snapchat users, while the disease currently affects nearly 850,000 French people. “This disease will experience impressive growth. In 2020, one in four French people over the age of 85 will be affected. In 2040, this affected population is estimated at more than two million”, explains Olivier Rippe, president of Proximity BBDO at the site of the Huffington Post.
“Snapchat works in the same way as Alzheimer’s disease: immediate memory disappears. Except that for one, the process is voluntary, while for the other it is undergone,” he adds. This initiative is accompanied by a website interactive in the form of infographics. By connecting via Facebook, it allows us to see how many of our friends will potentially be affected by Alzheimer’s. An effective way to realize the extent of the disease.
